Our Story
Welcome to Kula Vineyards & Winery
Kula Vineyards & Winery is a small, family-owned vineyard and winery located in Templeton, California, on the famed Central Coast.

Owned by Chris and Ayako, Kula sits in the El Pomar District of the Paso Robles AVA.
We began as grape growers in 2014, selling our Syrah to some of Paso Robles’ most well-known wineries. In 2016, we officially became a winery so we could share our vision of small-production, single-vineyard, single-varietal wines that fully express their region and vineyard of origin.
We opened our first tasting room in Atascadero in 2019. Then, in 2024, as our wine club continued to grow, we moved into a larger space in Atascadero. During that expansion, we also opened Kula Hawaiian Kitchen next to the tasting room, so we could share our love of Hawaiian cuisine with the community.
Living on the vineyard allows us to stay intimately connected with our vines. Every day, they let us know what they need to thrive. When harvest comes, we hand-pick and carefully hand-sort the grapes for all of our wines, using only the best fruit.

Kula is the Hawaiian word for "gold" or "golden". So shouldn't be surprised to find plenty of Golden Retrievers around!
Yes! Kula Vineyards and Winery was named for our Golden Retrievers.
Originally there were goldens Kona and Ehime, as well as our Shetland Sheepdog, Kahlua. Now there are goldens Makana and Sachi (pictured, left). They'd love to welcome you to the tasting room or vineyard.
In addition to the goldens, you'll find our Arabian horses, Hana and Ken, who appear on our estate Cabernet and Cabernet blend labels, as well as Jersey cows and chickens.
